Senior Cybersecurity Engineer

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the Controls team, contribute to the automation of controls assessment and help align content development to support CIS’s strategic initiatives. The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer will also provide guidance and coaching. This position is telecommute optional.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the online development and writing process for CIS Critical Security Controls best practice guides
  • Assist the team in creating, maintaining and growing the Controls communities
  • Research attack models and data to help validate and prioritize the Critical Security Controls
  • Conduct analysis and technical mappings to ensure CIS best practices align with major frameworks such as NIST, ISO and COBIT
  • Engage across CIS to ensure the Critical Security Controls are referenced accurately and appropriately in our product lines
  • Create, update and provide input to Critical Security Controls content to ensure CIS Controls team products stay up to date with the latest technologies
  • Edit and review CIS Critical Security Controls products
  • Represent CIS in a general capacity and present at conferences as necessary;
  • Mentor and coach team members in a technical and project management capacity
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Computer Science, IT or related field or equivalent work experience*
  • 5+ years of professional work experience in Cybersecurity, IT operations or IT security field
  • 2+ years of team leadership experience including project management, coaching and mentoring
  • Demonstrate understanding and awareness of cybersecurity standards such as NIST, FISMA, ISO, etc.
  • Team player with ability to collaborate across functions and throughout the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

*Additional years of relevant experience or a combination of an Associate’s degree or equivalent and relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.


It's a Plus if You Have:

  • Extensive experience with the CIS Critical Security Controls
  • Previous experience working in an agile environment
  • Industry recognized certifications (e.g. GIAC)
  • Proficiency in contemporary programming languages such as Python
  • Proficiency in XML
