The Media Relations Manager is someone who loves to tell meaningful stories that will share the value of CIS and its mission to the world. You’ll do this by supporting the development, and managing the execution, of a proactive media relations strategy for the organization, acting as the primary resource and contact for in-bound media inquiries, and managing the spokesperson identification and for CIS. The Manager will bring with them strong relationships in the national media and security trade media, with a track record of cutting through highly technical content to develop easy to understand, impactful storylines. The Manager will also have experience measuring media performance and turning those insights into opportunities for continuous improvement, and new media opportunities.  

What You'll Do

  • Support and manage the development and execution of a proactive media relations strategy and media best practices to ensure positive relationships with media stakeholders
  • Manage the CIS media monitoring and measurement strategy and provide updates to senior leadership on progress and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with Communications leadership on CIS media training initiatives
  • Act as the primary point of contact for in-bound media inquiries for CIS
  • Develop and continuously refine the key messaging that tells the overall CIS story
  • Support the execution of business unit industry trade media strategy
  • Act as a media spokesperson and represent CIS as necessary
  • Manage the development, refinement and execution of the CIS crisis communications plan, as necessary.
  • Lead, mentor and coach team members
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing or Communications discipline*
  • 5+ years of communications experience
  • 2+ years of B2B media relations experience with a focus on technology
  • Previous experience as a media spokesperson
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing media relations strategies
  • Demonstrated relationships with national and technology trade media journalists
  • Experience with a Content Management Platform (CMP) (Newscred or similar)
  • Experience with a media monitoring and measurement platform (BrandWatch or similar)
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

It's a Plus if You Have:

  • Demonstrated relationships with national and trade reporters covering cybersecurity
  • Advanced degree in a communications, business, or information security discipline
  • Experience developing and executing integrated marketing and communications plans
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing crisis communications plans
  • Experience with Lean and/or Agile methodologies

*Additional years of relevant experience or a combination of an Associate’s degree or equivalent and relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.
