Overview

The primary focus of the Patent Counsel is to assist in providing legal support to CIS on intellectual property matters and maintain a portfolio of patents and other IP assets that advance the vision and mission of CIS.

We lead a global community of IT professionals to continuously evolve these standards and provide products and services to proactively safeguard against emerging threats.

What You'll Do

  • Advise and counsel internal stakeholders on all facets of intellectual property law with a focus on patent procurement, maintenance, and enforcement.
  • Manage invention disclosure and patent application processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate new inventions and opportunities to monetize patents and align with business strategies.
  • Prepare, document, and file patent applications.
  • Conduct intellectual property audits and other due diligence efforts. 
  • Manage a portfolio of patents and other intellectual property assets.
  • Draft and negotiate intellectual property agreements.
  • Collaborate with other inhouse counsel to achieve legal and business objectives. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer.

What You'll Need

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Active member of a state bar in good standing (and eligible to register as an inhouse counsel in New York).
  • 5+ years of relevant patent law experience at a top tier law firm and/or technology company.
  • Expert grasp of principles of intellectual property law (including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and a high-performing professional.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

It's a plus if you have:

  • Experience working in cybersecurity organizations
