Overview

The Principal Cloud Solutions Engineer will be a senior technical individual contributor position within CIS’s Operations & Security Services (OSS) Department. The Principal Cloud Solutions Engineer will provide overall strategic and tactical direction, operational enhancements, and expert troubleshooting for a suite of cloud-based systems deployed by OSS to thousands of State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) organizations through the Multi-State Information Sharing & Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) and Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing & Analysis Center (EI-ISAC).

Salary Range: $108,100 - $163,600

What You'll Do

  • Identify and define technical requirements for cloud-based applications and systems
  • Identify cloud services that meet specific technical requirements
  • Collaborate with IT and Information Security to ensure corporate policies and security requirements are implemented and followed for all cloud instances
  • Make recommendations to OSS executive leadership on product capabilities, direction, investments, and divestments of technologies, products, and services
  • Serve as the most senior technical expert on deployed products within the OSS Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure
  • Develop containerized solutions (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into member cyber events, member data, and other key business performance metrics

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, data science, or a related field*
  • 5+ years’ experience in deploying and managing systems and applications in cloud service providers (AWS primarily, also Google Cloud Platform and Azure)
  • 5+ years’ experience with architecting solutions in the cloud including compute, storage, databases, and networking
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various cloud security methodologies, processes, and solutions including firewalls, web application firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, proxies, and others
  • Demonstrated knowledge of taking conceptual requirements and designing them in the cloud, including systems, servers, appliances, network components, and security
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building cost estimates for cloud resources based on requirements and tuning cloud infrastructure to optimize performance and cost
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environment
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, S3, Datalake, Glue, AppFlow
  • Strong knowledge of the different service models offered in the cloud (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, and Faas)
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Candidate must be eligible to obtain National Security Clearance
  • The position is open to U.S. Citizens and requires a favorably adjudicated DHS Fitness Review for Public Trust Positions**
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

It's a Plus if You Have:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business or related field
  • Strong presentation capabilities
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java, PHP, Ruby, Python or Go with preference given to Python
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, Ansible, and/or Jenkins
  • Proficiency in using Atlassian products Jira and Confluence
  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect and/or DevOps Engineer

*Additional years of relevant experience or a combination of an Associate’s degree or equivalent and relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.
