Overview

The Solution Architect holds a key consultative role in the Engineering Center of Excellence (ECoE) department responsible for developing solutions for the ECoE and business units supported. The Solution Architect will work to gather business and technical requirements to develop, design, and document solution architectures for the ECoE to deliver to our internal and external customers as a consultative service to the enterprise. The Solution Architect will be responsible for handling service requests for collaboratively working with project teams, Security, Project Management Office (PMO), and vendors to develop technically sound and secure solutions that meet requirements, on-time and, on budget.

Salary Range: $110,500 - $167,300

What You'll Do

  • Follow the Enterprise Architect (EA) Program’s Architecture Development Methodology (ADM), CIS policies and standards, and industry best practices
  • Translates business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives and documents all solution architecture design and analysis work
  • Works closely with the product owners and product managers to ensure a robust architectural runway that can support future business requirements throughout the product lifecycle
  • Understands business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state) and determines corresponding enterprise solution designs and change requirements to drive the organization's targeted business outcomes
  • Research, evaluate, and propose architecture and technology options that best align with the business and technical requirements
  • Develops a roadmap for the evolution of the enterprise solution portfolio from current to future state, as defined by the solutions architecture
  • Collaborate with EA, IT, and Information Security Office (ISO) teams to align solutions with ECoE portfolio
  • Develop architectural artifacts (i.e., diagrams, matrices, catalogs, etc.) and requirements specifications across the architectural domains:
    • Cloud Architecture/Computing services (Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platforms-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
    • Data Architecture (i.e., databases, data warehouses, big data, data lakes, data inventories, data flows, etc.)
    • Application Architecture (i.e., web servers, application servers, middleware, SOA, microservices, event driven etc.)
    • Technical Architecture (i.e., network infrastructure, storage infrastructure, computer infrastructure, software components, monitoring, logging, automation, etc.)
    • Security Architecture (i.e., identity access management, authentication, authorization, access controls, security monitoring, etc.)
  • Supports a community of practice (CoP), guiding and helping agile teams, product owners to align with the overall enterprise architecture governance and assurance
  • Maintain a close relationship with project teams to update and maintain the solution architecture documentation throughout the life cycle of the solutions through the change control processes. This includes working with traditional and agile project development teams
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or a related STEM field*
  • 5+ years’ experience with Architecture Modeling Languages and Diagraming Tools
  • 5+ years’ experience with Solution Architecture across architecture domains (Business, Data, Application, Technology, Networking, and Security)
  • Cloud Architect training & certifications (i.e., AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI)
  • Technology training & certifications (i.e., Microsoft, Red Hat, Ubuntu, VMware)
  • Strong experience in generating high-level and detailed architectural diagrams and documentation
  • Development experience in Java, Spring framework, Python, or other programming languages
  • Strong presentation and communications skills
  • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • The position is open to U.S. citizens and requires a favorably adjudicated DHS Fitness Review for Public Trust Positions**

It's a Plus if You Have:

  • ITIL 3.x or above training and certification
  • Prior experience in IT operations, systems engineering, and software development
  • Experience with NIST Cybersecurity Framework

 

*Additional years of relevant experience or a combination of an Associate’s degree or equivalent and relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.
