Overview

The Assistant General Counsel is part of the Legal and Compliance department and reports to the General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer. As our Assistant General Counsel, you will partner with CIS team members to promote the CIS mission and help support our growth. The primary focus of this position is to provide legal support to business and cross-functional teams.

Salary Range: $124,800 - $218,400

What You'll Do

  • Assist in counseling business partners on marketing and communications initiatives and conduct legal compliance reviews of related materials   
  • Assist in advising and implementing privacy policies and monitoring privacy laws and regulations
  • Assist in advising and implementing best practices in corporate and artificial intelligence (AI) governance across the organization
  • Assist in developing and implementing contracting strategy for CIS’s business, procurement, and corporate organizations, including overall contract template standardization, contract approval process, negotiation playbooks, and training
  • Draft, edit, and negotiate complex domestic and international contractual arrangements with private and government entities across a range of cybersecurity products and services
  • Advise business partners on applicable laws and regulations
  • Work with various internal and external stakeholders and provide legal support for other parts of the organization as the need arises
  • Communicate risks to business partners to close complex transactions and mitigate transaction disputes
  • Conduct legal research as needed
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

What You'll Need

  • Juris Doctor degree from accredited institution
  • 7+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in a top tier law firm and/or technology company
  • Active member of a state bar in good standing (and eligible to register as an in-house counsel in New York)
  • Significant experience in supporting corporate and AI governance, privacy, marketing and communications, and/or government contracting
  • Strong drafting skills for a variety of commercial agreements, e.g., strategic partnership agreements, sales agreements, SaaS agreements, software licenses, services agreements, purchase orders, and membership agreements
  • Must be able to handle a significant number of legal issues and negotiations simultaneously and prioritize competing demands
  • Must be a team player and a high-performing professional
  • Must have a high level of personal integrity and accountability and a demonstrated level of maturity, discretion, and judgment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

It's a Plus if You Have:

  • In-house legal experience, preferably working with business and cross-functional teams
  • Experience in the technology industry, especially cybersecurity
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity, nonprofit, and/or export laws and regulations
  • Designation as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)
  • Designation as a Certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP)
  • Experience supporting transactions involving domestic and/or international customers
  • Experience using contract management software to manage templates and generate documents
