Overview

The Linux Systems Engineer is part of the Information Technology (IT) department, which resides on the IT Infrastructure team and reports to the Director of IT Services. As our Linux Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and securing Linux-based servers and systems.  

 

This role will require working in-person from our Albany, NY office varying between one to five days per week. In-person support will be dependent on the needs of the IT team.

Salary Range: $70,600 - $116,600

What You'll Do

  • Apply security patches and updates to Linux systems in a timely manner to address vulnerability remediation
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to Linux systems and applications
  • Design and configure new Linux based solutions, including servers and workstations, applying security benchmarks, and installing necessary software packages
  • Complete support tickets from end users, and project tasks within the organization
  • Collaborate with staff across the organization to ensure smooth integration and operation of systems
  • Maintain detailed documentation on system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps
  • After-business hours work as needed
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

What You'll Need

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Systems Engineer  
  • 2+ years’ experience administering Linux file systems, system administration tools, and mission critical servers
  • 1+ years managing VMware vCenter environment 
  • 1+ years of professional cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) 
  • Excellent customer service skills and communication skills 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

It's a Plus if You Have:

  • 2+ years’ experience managing VMware vCenter environment
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college in Computer Science, IT, or related field 
  • Experience working with Security Best Practices (CIS, DISA, PCI) 
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, AWS services and tools (VPCs, Trusted Advisor, Load Balancers, S3 Buckets) 
  • Previous experience working in an agile environment
